Top 5 Activities for Tweens at Walt Disney World Resort

My oldest kiddo loved everything about Disney when she was a toddler and young school-age: Mickey, the fireworks, the magic. But now that she is officially in that next “phase” of kiddom, we are finding even more to love about Disney World and all it has to offer. We collaborated on this list, and came up with the Top 5 Activities for Tweens at Walt Disney World Resort..

1. Thrill Rides!

My tween-aged daughter’s favorite “big kid” rides include Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (3 loop-de-loops! Loud rock music!),  Avatar: Flight of Passage (we always ride this one at least twice ), DINOSAUR!, and Star Tours. These more “grown-up” rides make this age group feel like they’re really branching into the more exciting parts of the Disney Parks.

2. Pin Trading

Of course, any age can enjoy Pin Trading, but tweens can trade their “younger” pins for their newest favorites:  Star Wars, Marvel, tsum tsum hipster-themed Mickey, and others. Identity is important with this age group, so let them show their personalities with their own unique lanyard, pins and accessories!

3. Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom

This fun, interactive game inside the Magic Kingdom is well-suited for tweens. Guests act as a recruit for Merlin, and serve as new apprentice sorcerers to fight off Disney Villains at each magical portal. This game features a Sorcerer’s Key Card, as well as special spell cards that guests can use to interact with each portal throughout the Magic Kingdom. Guests interested in taking part in this self-guided game can stop by the Main Street Firehouse, or an outpost located just inside Liberty Square, behind the Christmas Shop.

4. “Selfie” Spots

Most of us have heard of the “purple wall”, a selfie-taker’s dream! But there are other spots around the “world” that tweens would find fun, and insta-worthy. Another popular spot is right in front of Cinderella Castle. The big ball in Epcot and the floating mountains of Pandora are two of my daughter’s favorite selfie-spots. Of course, if your tween has a favorite character, this is an obvious chance for an amazing selfie! If you have MemoryMaker, consider some current offerings for tween-friendly selflie-style Magic Shots. The great thing about a selfie is you can angle the photo to make it look like you’re the only one there!

5. Villainous Character interactions

Whether you’re visiting the parks during special events (RunDisney,  holiday parties, etc), or during a normal part of the year, these Disney Villain meet-and-greets are especially appealing to tweens. In Hollywood Studios think Kylo Ren and the Stormtroopers. Inside the Magic Kingdom, Gaston is always sure to provide a good laugh. The Grand Floridian Resort features a dinner that at first-glance seems little-kiddish, but features Lady Tremaine, Drisella and Anastasia acting their worst, eye-rolling and taunting the kids as they come around the restaurant. If you’re looking for an extra special treat, the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage allows a chance to hang with Captain Hook and Mr. Smee!
