Disney Genie Breakdown

Exciting news this week as we learned more about the new Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Lightning Lane services! With this news comes the official announcement that FASTPASS, Fastpass+ and Disney MaxPass at Disneyland are being retired. These newly announced services are coming this Fall and are meant to reduce the amount of advanced planning needed for guests. Disney Genie will do all the work... so you can focus on the fun!

Disney Genie

Disney Genie is a complimentary service that will work within My Disney Experience to help you better plan your day. With features like a virtual assistant, real-time tip board, personalized day optimizer, forecasted wait times, virtual queues, mobile ordering, and checking restaurant and unique experience wait lists for availability.

Disney Genie

Advanced Dining and Unique Experience Reservations

Although the complimentary Disney Genie service will allow you to check for open availability at restaurants and experiences, it is still highly recommended you secure these reservations before your trip. This would include your preferred dining reservations, Savi’s Workshop, The Droid Depot, and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (when it returns). At this time advanced dining reservations and unique experiences can be made 60 days prior to your Walt Disney World vacation.

Disney Genie+

Disney Genie+ allows you to select certain attractions one at a time for Lightning Lane access the day you head to the park. For on property guests, Disney Genie+ can be purchased for your entire trip ahead of time as an add on to your room and ticket package. You can then make your first Lightning Lane selection at 7am each day you’re in the park.

For on property guests that prefer Disney Genie+ to be added on to only certain park days, it can be purchased starting at midnight the day before your park day. For off property guests, this will be the only way to add on Disney Genie+ and selections for Lightning Lane will be made once entering the park.

The cost is $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland. Included in these costs, besides Lightning Lane, are augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads for Disneyland Resort.

Note: Memory Maker at Walt Disney World is still a separate add on at $169 for your entire trip when purchased at least 3 days in advance.  ($199 after that)

Lightning Lane - Individual Attraction Selection

Some popular rides will require a special Lightning Lane pass that will be a ‘pay per ride’ addition not included with Disney Genie+. Individual attractions under this service can be purchased at 7am for on property guests with a limit of two attractions per guest, per day. Off property guests will be able to purchase and book their choices upon entering the park.

Pricing is not yet available, but we do know it will be date based pricing with a limited amount sold each day. You do not have to purchase Disney Genie+ for this service.

More Info To Come

While we take a minute to digest all of the changes, it’s important to note that all rides will continue to have standby lanes (except for Rise of the Resistance that will continue to use a virtual line). It is possible that other rides will also have a virtual line like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot opening October 1st.

We also don’t have an official list of attractions included for Disney Genie+ or the Individual Attraction Selection for Lightning Lane. We also don’t have an official date when these services begin. As of this moment it is new for Fall of 2021. Be sure to follow us as we promise to let you know when this service can be added to your next Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacation!
