It was recently announced that the highly anticipated Disney Genie service would be coming to both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort this fall. While we are still awaiting some details about this service – including a release date– here is what we know so far.

Disney Genie (Complimentary)

The Disney Genie service will be a complimentary service. It will be able to be accessed through the My Disney Experience app and allow Guests to “create their Best Disney Day”. In order to use this service, Guests are required to have both a valid theme park ticket as well as a valid theme park reservation. Disney Genie will allow Guests to reduce the amount of advanced planning allowing for easy, flexible planning during their vacation.

The complimentary service will allow Guests to create personalized itineraries based on their specific interests – attractions, foodie experiences, entertainment – and even general interests, such as Disney princesses and thrill rides. Disney Genie will provide a personalized touring plan which is continuously updated throughout the day based on the Guests interests. The itinerary will incorporate pre-planned activities, such as dining reservations.

In addition, Disney Genie will also:

Allow Guests to create their very own tip board based on their favorite rides and attractions. This will display current and predicted wait times.
Incorporate existing planning features including virtual queues (select attractions), dining and experience reservations, mobile food ordering, virtual assistant chat, and more.

Although it was announced that both FastPass at Walt Disney World Resort and MaxPass at Disneyland Resort will officially be retired, there are two additional options available for Guests which are similar in concept.

Disney Genie+ (Paid Service)

Disney Genie+ service will be available at Walt Disney World for $15 per ticket per day and at Disneyland for $20 per ticket per day. This service will include:

Lightning Lane entrance for select experiences
Audio Experiences which include tips and fun facts
Augmented Reality Lenses at Walt Disney World Resort Only (Similar to SnapChat Filters)
Unlimited PhotoPass downloads at Disneyland Resort Only

The FastPass and MaxPass entrances will be converted to Lightning Lane. Lightning Lane entrances will allow Guests expedited access to the ride or attraction.

The rides and attractions included with the Genie+ service have not yet been released. This service will work similar to MaxPass at Disneyland Resort. Guests will have the ability to choose the next available time to arrive at select rides and attractions using the Lightning Lane entrance. Selections will be able to be made one selection at a time, throughout the entire day and are limited to availability.

Genie+ service will be able to be purchased in advance for the length of the ticket with select vacation package tickets or it can be purchased for single day use that specific day.

Individual Attraction Selections (Paid Service)

Guests will also be able to schedule a Lightning Lane arrival time for up to two attractions each day. Examples include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Walt Disney World Resort and Radiator Springs Racers at Disneyland Resort. These attractions will NOT be included with the Disney Genie+ service. However, all rides and attractions will have standby or virtual line options available. Individual attraction selections may be scheduled across multiple theme parks and are subject to limited availability. Pricing, as well as specific rides, have not yet been announced. It was stated that pricing will vary by date, attraction, and park.

Select Walt Disney World Resort Hotel Guests will be able to make selections using Disney Genie+ as well as their individual attraction selections beginning at 7 AM on the day of their visit. All other Guests will be able to make their selections once the theme park opens on the day of their visit. All Disneyland Guests will be able to schedule their selections once they arrive in the park.
