Everything You Need to Know About Disney’s Blizzard Beach

Disney’s Blizzard Beach will reopen its gates for the first time in what seems like forever on November 13, 2022.  A wise snowman said, “The hot and the cold are just so intense. Put them together, it just makes sense.” Olaf knew what he was talking about. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is the best of winter underneath the Florida sunshine.  You’ll feel like you’re walking into a ski resort filled with snowcapped hills, icicles, an a few melting drifts.  The theme of this water park lends itself perfectly to the brand new touches from the Disney film, “Frozen” that will be found when it reopens!

I took my two children to Blizzard Beach and met with my colleague, Sara Kerr, and her daughter last April. By the time we left, we couldn’t believe this was our first visit to one of two Disney waterparks. To say we had fun would be an understatement.

For the Little Folks

At the ground level of this ski resort the tiniest tots (those under 48 inches) can head to Tike’s Peak to visit the Snow Castle splash pad and slides that are just the right speed for the little ones. Older children (under 12) will love Ski Patrol Training Camp where they can zipline into the pool, walk across icebergs, and make a splash on the body slides.

For the Thrill Seekers

Ready for the action? Each of the park’s slopes feature some fantastic waterslides. Just to name a few of our favorites:

  • Runoff Rapids (any height; Red Slope) a set of three tube ride slides—two open and one enclosed. I suggest the open slides, but the kids love the enclosed one. These are some of the longest slides at the park at approximately 600 feet or about 40 seconds long.

  • Downhill Double Dipper (48in minimum height; Purple Slope) a twin slide competition. Race against your partner to the finish line on this tube slide. There’s even a timer down to the millisecond for close calls!

  • Snow Stormers (any height; Purple Slope) a set three mat slides that zigzag down through the “melting snow” on the slalom course to the puddle down below.

More Fun Awaits

  • Not to be missed are some of the parks main attractions. Make your way to the Green Slope via the Chairlift (32in minimum height) or climb to the top of this mountain to experience the parks best thrills:

  • Teamboat Springs (any height, excluding infants. Child must be able to sit upright.) Don’t let this family raft ride fool you. You’ll launch quickly into a hilarious adventure of twists, turns, and splashes from the melting snowbanks. The raft seats up to six people.

  • Slush Gusher (48in minimum height) a 90-foot slide over two snow banks. This thrilling slide is just a warm up.

  • Summit Plummet (48in minimum height) Make your way up 12 stories for the one of the world’s tallest and fastest waterslides. Your speed will be clocked as you literally plummet down the mountainside. Most guests reach speeds of approximately 60mph.

Food

Once you’ve packed in the thrills grab a bite to eat or some snacks from one of the 10 counter service dining locations. I.C. Expeditions offers a Sand Pail of ice cream and toppings perfect for sharing! Relax before you leave by lazily floating down the Cross Country Creek or wade in the waves at Melt-Away Bay.

Supplies

Forgot something? The Beach Haus is available for all your shopping needs. Whether in need of sunscreen, sunglasses, a floppy hat or just looking for new beachy attire they have everything you need. Plus, pick up a refillable mug to stay hydrated during your visit.

A waterpark day is the perfect way to chill out and refresh while still packing in plenty of fun too!
