Exciting Disney D23 Expo 2024 Reveals: New Cruise Ships, Park Expansions, and Must-See Shows

Every two years, The Walt Disney Company holds an event known as the Disney D23 Expo.  This is an event where fans and industry insiders are able to gather to celebrate all things Disney.  It also features major announcements.  Check out all the exciting announcements made during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at the Honda Center during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event for 2024!

 Disney Cruise Line

  • Four new ships will be joining the fleet.  The new ships will arrive between 2027 and 2031.  Once these new ships are added, there will be a total of 13 ships that make up the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

  • The signature production aboard Disney Destiny, which begins sailing in 2025, will be “Disney Hercules” featuring music and characters from the classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film.

  • The Disney Treasure, which will welcome guests at the end of 2024, will feature a new stage production, “Disney The Take of Moana”.  The show will include Te Ka as a giant 15-foot-tall puppet.

Walt Disney World Resort

  • Monster’s Inc. Land will be debuting at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  This area will feature the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park – and it’s inspired by the door vault shown in the first movie.  An opening date was not shared, but work on this new area is slated to begin in 2025.

  • Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be reimagined and will be home to a new area inspired by Pixar Animation Studios film “Cars”.  Two attractions will be located here.  One attraction will take guests on a thrilling rally race through the mountains while the second attraction will be geared to the littlest racers and fun for the whole family.

  • Villains Land will be coming to Magic Kingdom Park.  This land will feature two major attractions, dining, and shopping.  Further details have yet to be announced, but preparation is already underway!

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will be getting a new land called Tropical Americas.  This land will feature one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort as well as an attraction themed after Indiana Jones and an attraction themed after Encanto.  The land is slated to open in 2027.

  • A new show is also coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.  Beginning next winter, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” will take guests on an adventure through different biomes seen in the movie and will be shown in the Tree of Life Theater.

  • A new lounge inspired by Spaceship Earth was announced for EPCOT and will open in 2025.

  • Art work was released for the new lounge themed after Pirates of the Caribbean set to debut at Magic Kingdom Park in 2025.

  • Test Track is currently being reimagined and will open in 2025.

  • The Mandalorian and Grogu will be featured in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run found in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

  • A new nighttime parade, “Disney Starlight”, will premiere at Magic Kingdom Park in 2025.  This new parade will continue the nighttime legacy started by the “Main Street Electrical Parade”.

 Disneyland Resort

  • The magic of Pandora will be coming to Disney California Adventure and will draw inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of the Water”.

  • The first ever Walt Disney audio-animatronic figure will make its debut in “Walt Disney: A Magical Life” which will debut at the Main Street Opera House at Disneyland.

  • Avengers Campus will double with two brand new attractions.

  • An attraction themed after Pixar’s “Coco” will be coming to Disney California Adventure.  Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open November 15, 2024.

Groundbreaking new attractions, immersive lands, thrilling shows, and new cruise ships were announced at the Disney D23 Expo.  The one thing that they all have in common is that they will continue to enchant guests and offer something for everyone.  No matter if you will embark on your first experience or have experienced the parks and ships multiple times, there is plenty to look forward to over the next several years!
