Reasons to Use Rideshare at Disney World

Disney World transportation is awesome. It’s clean, has great music, the drivers are friendly, and it’s efficient. Knowing that Disney transportation is this great and it’s free, why would anyone consider using a rideshare, such as Uber or Lyft? It’s a matter of evaluating your circumstances and whether or not the extra money is worth it for your family. Below I'll show you why I have two reasons to use rideshare at Disney World.

Uber Ride at Walt Disney World

Long Lines: The COVID situation has significantly reduced capacity on buses, monorails, and the Disney Skyliner. Buses typically do not take more than 3 or 4 families at a time. The Skyliner only allows one family per gondola. The monorail allows one family per side, so at most, 2 in a section. This is a significant reduction. Disney has multiple buses available at heavy times, but if you are at the back of a long line, 8 or more buses could easily leave before you are even close to the front. If you head to your mode of transportation and find a very long line, the cost may very well be worth it. Disney transportation to get back to the resort in the evenings will likely be significantly shorter and rideshare likely would not be needed.

Dining Reservations: Disney transportation stops running approximately 1 hour after park closing. If you go to the Grand Floridian for dinner at 7 the closing of a park is 8, you will probably have to use rideshare. It will be very difficult to take a bus back to the park and then get back to your resort before transportation stops. Breakfast is similar. Transportation starts 1 hour prior to park opening. If you have a 7am breakfast, you do not really have a good way to get there under the current restricted hours.

Paying for rideshare is a matter of convenience, and in some cases necessity. Download both Uber and Lyft and compare rates. If you take rideshare to Magic Kingdom, ask them to take you to the Contemporary and tell the guard you are going to breakfast. You’ll get in the park much sooner by walking over rather than being dropped at the Ticket and Transportation Center. These are great reasons to use a rideshare at Disney and can save you time and potential headaches.
